This FMCG corporate faced tremendous regulatory and market pressure and wanted to accelerate key projects in their R&D portfolio. However, the conventional R&D processes and procedures in place were insufficient for meeting these demands. The corporation’s leadership team realized that their organization required a more agile approach to working, a culture that fosters innovation, and a heightened focus on customer-centric design and accelerated delivery.
We recognized the need for a comprehensive training program to help them navigate the complex and ever-changing landscape of innovation. Therefore, we curated an interactive learning journey. This journey aimed to create awareness at a broad audience, secure buy-in at management positions, and provide in-depth training for pilot core team members. The program covered a wide range of topics, including design thinking, value proposition design, lean start-up methodologies, and agile methods of dealing with risk and uncertainty.
They selected three pilot teams in various maturity stages to operate under a new method. This included frameworks and tools to facilitate customer-centric thinking, lean experiment learning loops and multi-disciplinary decision making.
To help the pilot teams become more self-reliant and focused on executional tasks (and require fewer debriefs from outside the core team), we explored an agile reporting and governance model. We introduced a pre/post survey to benchmark progress on various angles. Such as holistic decision-making, established trust, de-risking open assumptions rapidly and iteratively, and focusing committed resources. Participants were surveyed to assess their satisfaction with these improvements.
By executing this program, we’ve managed to pinpoint critical bottlenecks on our innovation framework to become more successful. The support from Verhaert did not only accelerate key projects, but also sparked a mindset shift. Now everyone is excited about this new approach so we’ll scale it across the organization.
- Over 100 colleagues trained on applied innovation methods and tools
- 3 pilot teams with an accelerated development plan and approved go-to market
- Data-driven decision making based on lean experiments
- 20 to 50% increase in participant satisfaction on angles like: ‘making holistic decisions’, ‘being organized for rapid iteration’ and ‘being externally oriented and inspired’
- Selection of tools and PM methods integrated as new corporate SOP
By implementing a comprehensive training program and introducing an agile reporting and governance model, they were able to transform their R&D processes and culture. As a result they successfully navigated regulatory and market pressure and expedited key projects.
